Final Project

PLAN: the plan is to mold wet clay into a a thick circle. after this i will gently press into the clay making triangular shaped divits in the circle, both thinning it out and creating places to put things in the dish. Once I have my desired shape I will fire the piece and then paint it with glaze to resemble a lemon .

REFLECTION : overall I am proud of this piece. The process was fairly easy, however I did struggle with making the divits even and finding ways to thin the piece so it could be fired. Another struggle was making all of the lines of paint look sharp rather than sloppy. I am very happy with the outcome of the piece and I feel that it turns Zubarans "still life with lemons" into a useful dish

Background Of The Artist: Francisco de Zurbaran was alive from 1598-1664 , during his lifetime he is regaurded as a leading Spanish Baroque painter. He was born in Fuente de Cantos but spent most of his time in Seville. Here he became famous for many religious pieces. His piece that I took inspiration from is his "still life with lemons, oranges and, roses".  The artwork is said to have underlying religious meaning, with some suggesting that the three aspects of it represent the holy trinity .This piece stood out to me because it has a sense of naturalism and is regaurded as a masterpiece of its genre .
